Our most intensive skin-resurfacing treatment
Tetra Pro is a 10,600 nm CO₂ laser that can remove precise columns of damaged skin while delivering controlled heat into the dermis. Untreated tissue between those columns supports healing.
The stronger ablative settings are designed for clients seeking a more significant change than a light peel or low-downtime laser can provide. With that potential comes a real recovery period and detailed pre- and post-treatment care.
How it works
Precise resurfacing, followed by months of renewal
The laser creates a controlled pattern of microscopic treatment columns. This removes damaged tissue and initiates a healing response while surrounding skin helps the area recover.
Heat delivered below the surface also stimulates new collagen. Texture and tone begin changing as the skin heals, while firmness can continue improving over the following three to six months.
Fractional ablation
Microscopic columns of skin are treated while intervening tissue remains intact to support a more predictable healing process.
Controlled thermal energy
Heat reaches the dermis to stimulate collagen remodeling that continues well beyond the visible healing period.

This treatment can produce significant improvement, but it is not the right starting point for every skin type, concern, schedule, or comfort level.

The treatment itself is one appointment. The complete process includes preparation, a carefully controlled procedure, and hands-on support throughout healing.

Consultation + preparation
We review your health and skin history, Fitzpatrick skin type, goals, and healing tolerance. Pretreatment skincare or prescribed medication may be recommended before your appointment.

Treatment
After topical numbing and cleansing, your provider treats the planned areas using customized CO₂ settings. Eye protection is used when treatment extends close to the eyelids, and a calming mask follows treatment.

Healing + results
Redness, swelling, tightness, pinpoint crusting, and flaking are expected during early healing. Texture and tone emerge as the surface recovers, with collagen improvement continuing for several months.

What is the difference between ablative and non-ablative laser resurfacing?+
Ablative lasers remove controlled portions of the skin's surface and can create more dramatic improvement with a longer recovery. Non-ablative lasers heat tissue without removing the surface and usually involve less downtime, but often require a series. CoolPeel uses a light fractional ablative CO₂ setting and sits between those experiences.
How much downtime should I honestly expect?+
We advise planning for roughly 5–14 days of active healing, depending on intensity and area. Swelling, redness, tightness, pinpoint crusting, and flaking can occur. Residual redness may continue after the surface has healed and can sometimes be covered with makeup.
Does ablative CO₂ laser treatment hurt?+
Topical numbing is used before treatment, and we apply a cooling mask afterward. Most discomfort is described as heat, tightness, tenderness, or a sunburn-like sensation during the first hours and days. Individual sensitivity varies.
When will I see my results?+
Early changes become visible as the skin heals over the first one to two weeks. Collagen remodeling and improvement in texture, firmness, scars, and lines can continue for three to six months.
How long can results last?+
Improvements can remain visible for years, but treatment does not stop aging or future sun damage. Daily sun protection, appropriate skincare, and maintenance treatments can help protect the result.
Can CO₂ laser be used around the eyes or mouth?+
For appropriate candidates, we can customize treatment around the upper and lower eyelids or around the mouth. Eye-area treatment requires specialized internal eye protection and additional preparation.
Can I receive ablative CO₂ if I have melasma or a darker skin tone?+
Pigment disorders and higher Fitzpatrick skin types require careful risk assessment because ablative resurfacing can trigger pigment changes. We limit fully ablative CO₂ to appropriate Fitzpatrick types 1–3 and may recommend pretreatment, CoolPeel, a non-ablative laser, or another approach instead.
What if I have a history of cold sores?+
Tell us during consultation. Laser resurfacing can reactivate the virus that causes cold sores, so preventive antiviral medication may be prescribed around treatment.
Can CO₂ be combined with other treatments?+
Often, but timing matters. The skin must be adequately healed before many additional procedures. Your provider will coordinate a safe sequence based on treatment intensity and your full plan.
